NEMO – The Network of European Museum Organisations

Conference Design

Each year, NEMO – the Network of European Museum Organisations, organizes an international conference. In 2020 it took place in Rijeka, Croatia. NEMO requested a new visual outlook for all tools being used in the communication around the conference. “Museums making sense” was the title of the year and the creative lead motif aimed to visually interpret and capture the themes of the conference. Focus lied on the role Museums play when it comes to translating the complex to the digestible.

The designed interpretation of the topic is based on leitmotifs and values that refer to the idea of “Mind Challenges”. As a counterpart to complex and multi-perspective topics, the concept has its roots in logic and orders. Inspired by IQ tests, challenging board games, or riddles, the graphic concept aims to focus on answers, processes, and solutions. Visually translated through abstract systematics, grids, and geometrics it´s underlining clarity and simplicity. Different geometric figures come together as a pattern-design-look that symbolizes the diversity of topics and themes of the conference. The visual approach inspires the viewer to join the riddle and contribute with solutions.
